The article raises issues of transparency in relationships between doctors and drug manufacturers. It indicates how important it is as a way for physicians and the pharmaceutical industry to regain public trust. The manuscript will define the concept of disclosure. It will discuss in detail The Physician Payment Sunshine Act from the U.S., which imposes a legal obligation on pharmaceutical companies to disclose their relationships with doctors and university hospitals. The article will also show the diverse regulation of disclosure in different countries of the European Union. The situation in Poland will be also described. In the summary, there will be a discussion about the importance of disclosure for patients and the advantages and disadvantages of such regulations for physicians and drug manufacturers.

The following paper presents and discusses controversies over the moral justification for patent protection in biotechnology. Special emphasis was put on the controversy over the moral justification for patent protection of stem cells. By referring to arguments of (i) human dignity and (ii) patentability criteria, the moral justifiability of patent protection of stem cells was put in serious doubt. In a further section of the paper, the moral problems linked to patent protection in biotechnology were shown in a broader political and economic view. In that section of the paper, the preliminary concept of solving some of the discussed problems was sketched out (i.e. the introduction of decision criteria based on the system of values shared by the members of a given society).

The main aim of my article is indicating the unsolved research problems connected to causation in the area of the philosophy of economics. First, I briefly define causation and discuss two most notable approaches, i.e. the realist theory of causation and the instrumentalist theory of causation. Second, I review the most recent researches focused on the problem of causation in economics. Third, I discuss a number of case studies. On the grounds of comparison of the research practice of economists and the current issues undertaken by the philosophers of economics, I conclude that there is a gap between the research practice and the normative methodological analyses and indicate the research questions that need to be answered.

The purpose of the paper is twofold. Firstly, to formulate a definition of a university’s social responsibility that takes into account social expectations from this institution and its internal determinants. The final result of this research is a definitione built on two concepts. On the one hand, it is a stakeholder policy, on the other hand, a whistleblower policy. These are the criteria of responsibility, i.e., the rules that make an institution transparent and open to social criticism. Secondly, the article poses the question whether a university in Poland (treated as a dominant institution of knowledge) is rightly seen as an irresponsible partner of civil society? From the business ethics perspective, the more responsible a university is, the more intense are its ties with the social environment represented by stakeholders and whistleblowers. When they fail to play their parts properly, the relationships should be considered dysfunctional. Additional explanation of this problem may be found in the theory of management. Using the concept of the final customer, public opinion can discover if it really is the main interlocutor of the university. The social partners of the university focus their attention on politicians and public administration as the alternative final customer of the academic product.
