Państwo Wołodyjowscy jako małżeństwo nie tylko barokowe
Henryk Sienkiewicz in his published articles expressed an opinion, that the essence of historical fiction writing is to complete documentary biographies of characters. The material filling historical spaces has to be consistent with tone and mood of a particular period, at the same time taking into a account social status and psychological portrait of a hero. Characters created by Sienkiewicz connect social elements typical of a particular time in history when they lived; literary inspirations, at the same time containing transcendental elements that make Гог the essence of humanity. The kind of personalities are formed in the last part of Trylogia in the persons of Mr and Mrs Wołodyjowski. Sienkiewicz applied historical biographies to create the pictures, yet he transformed them and completed with fictional material. The literary basis for Basia and Michal’s narration is the culture Baroque. However, the influence of antic, romantic, and even XIXth century style has determined its Hnal shape. In my aricle 1 present a history of the couple created by Sienkiewicz from their meeting in an inn near Warsaw, through vicissitudes of a flourishing feeling, to the events in Chrepliów and Kamieniec, all presented in the XVII"1 century selling.
