The present dissertation focuses on the phenomenon of lexical blending from the angle of structure, meaning and pragmatics. The data analysed comes from Russian and Polish media: newspapers, television and the Internet (a total of 800 units), with most examples originating from headlines and TV captions. The notion of “lexical blending” used in this dissertation encompasses word blending, idiom blending and graphic blending. It refers not only to the process of combining words but also other lexical units, including idioms. Lexical blends, understood in this way, result from combining the form and content of two or more lexical units.
