The lack of lexicographical works that confront phraseology of Polish and Ukrainian languages is a current problem. This project aims to answer the need and is a study of units active in both languages , lacking the outdated features. The authors of the Polish-Ukrainian Phraseology Dictionary plan to include classical idioms, representing the core of the entire set of phraseological units for each language, proverbs and sayings. This choice is motivated by a desire to showcase the richness and diversity of the basic image-makers serving as internal forms of stabilized units in both languages. The essential point for choosing relevant idioms will be their pictoriality and specific dynamics of internal forms, which marks, following the authors’ logic, the attractiveness of phraseological links. Preliminary studies showcase that very often basic images in confronting Slavic languages are totally dissimilar to each other, or at least partially different from each other. The authors wish to extend idioms pairs to separate synonymous units. This will cause the significant expansion of the whole edition, but also contribute to the wealth of phraseology systems, in particular to their semantic range. Therefore, the planned dictionary will additionally serve as a dictionary of synonyms. It will be furnished with two indexes. Each index will contain phraseological idioms from one of the described languages, respectively – Polish units and Ukrainian units. Indexes will be a kind of key streamline in the dictionary usage. The arrangement of compounds in the dictionary will be illustrated in a transparent manner.
