Markomanowie i Kwadowie w systemie „państw” klientelnych Imperium Romanum
Streszczenie
System państw — klientów Imperium Romanum miał za zadanie ochronę granic
i integralności prowincji rzymskich przed najazdami dalej mieszkających
barbarzyńców. Artykuł porusza wymienioną problematykę na przykładzie dwóch
ościennych plemion germańskich Markomanów i Kwadów, których władcy pełnili
rolę rzymskich klientów w w. I–III n.e. Autor stara się ponadto wyjaśnić zarówno
genezę systemu klientelnego, jak i jego upadek. The system of cliental states of the Roman Empire had as its aim the protection of
borders and integrity of Roman provinces against the raids of barbarians inhabiting
more remote territories. The paper deals with the above problematics focused
on the example of two neighbouring tribes: Marcomanni and the Quadi, whose
rulers fulfilled the role of Roman clients in I–III centuries. The author strives, moreover,
to explain both the genesis of the cliental system itself and its downfall.
